Historical Snapshot
The inception of Wheaton College can be traced back to Warren L. Wheaton’s land donation to the then-floundering Illinois Institute. With Jonathan Blanchard at its helm in 1860 and renamed in gratitude to Mr. Wheaton, the school embraced a new vision combining intellectual and spiritual growth. This shift quickly met with the tribulations of the Civil War, marking a period of significant sacrifice, as 67 students enlisted in the war, with some not returning.
Fast forward to modern times, Dr. Philip Graham Ryken, the 8th president since 2010, focuses on advancing arts, global perspectives, diversity, and liberal arts excellence at Wheaton College.
